INGA ASTRID MARGARETTA LAIRD Peacefully in her 98th year at Victoria General Hospital, B.C., on February 6, 2006. Born in Goteborg, Sweden, September 14, 1908. Predeceased by her parents, two sisters, and a brother in Sweden as well as husband, Bernie (JB) in Victoria (1981). Astrid Nelson arrived in Halifax from Sweden on January 31, 1928 and spent most of her life in Winnipeg retiring to Victoria in 1971. She excelled at bridge and cooking. Bridge groups included Silver Heights, Winnipeg; Silver Threads (Downtown and Hampton), Juan De Fuca and Fairfield New Horizons, Victoria. Survivors include daughter Deane (Diana) and son-in-law Don Hodgson, Victoria; granddaughter Dawn Marie (Brett) Pilcher and great-grandchildren Brittney and Tristan, Winnipeg; granddaughter Debbie (Mak) Ntwanga, Minneapolis; brother-in-law Gosta Seveborn, Sweden and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Cremation and private service. Celebration of life at a later date in Victoria. Special thanks to Doctors Wong, Smith and Boyle and the other health care professionals at Victoria General and also to Dr. Laing in Esquimalt. Astrid lived at the Renaissance, Esquimalt, since 2004.
